The Musics, September 2025

Welcome to my blog, The Musics!

Below is what I’ve been tracking, listening to, and reading recently. I have an email capture at the bottom if you want me to email when I post–usually once a month.

Legal blog:

In addition to this art blog, my career-job is a personal injury trial lawyer at Antonyan Miranda, LLP with a focus on brain injury cases. My recent law blogs are:

Blogs about ensuring your auto insurance covers you for another driver hitting you and having no/little insurance:

How to Stay Covered When the Other Driver Is Not?

What is Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist Coverage?

And here’s some other blogs about various topics from last month:

How do I prove the Government had Knowledge of a Dangerous Condition on their Sidewalk or Road?

Can you depose The People as a PMQ witness in a civil lawsuit?

How does a CCP 170.6 challenge against a Judge work? And how does this recent People v. Superior Court (Broadway) case connect with this law?

If the Defendant Won’t Admit Something at the Beginning of the Case, can I Seek Costs for Having to Prove Those Facts?

Books:

The Truth Detector: An Ex-FBI Agent’s Guide for Getting People to Reveal the Truth; by Jack Schafer. This book is much like other CIA/FBI/Police interrogation technique type books. How Schafer lays out this book makes a ton of sense. There’s solid info about how to connect with people about who they have been all their lives, to connect with them in the present.

Beyond Anxiety: Curiosity, Creativity, and Finding Your Life’s Purpose; by Martha N. Beck. Beck discusses anxiety and how to deal with it. I love her focus on play, and how playing can get you out of anxiety. As play allows you to enjoy what you’re doing… be curious… in love…goofy…and how that can net so many results because of this approach.

The Unfettered Mind: Writings of the Zen Master to the Sword Master; by Takuan Soho. This is one to sit with, and come back to. The teachings are based on Japanese swordsmanship, and about where you put you focus. Where you focus will take over your mind, so one main teaching was to be able to put your mind nowhere and everywhere to be fully aware.

Currently listening to Jack Reacher’s book #29, In Too Deep. I’m loving it just like so much of the Reacher stuff.
