The Musics, August 2023…er 2025!

Hey gang! Remember when I used to run a monthly blog on music and books…with a sprinkling of law stuffs? Well, I’m ramping it back up again, to be posting more than once every two years!

Since my last post July 2023, I’ve devoured loads and loads of books. Still very much loving that learning life. And of course I’m into new music all over the place.

I also split my Instagram from my drumming IG to also create a lawyer IG version of me. Follow both! @EricGanciEsq and @DrummerEric

Ok, with that: back to my (ir)regularly scheduled blog posting for August of 2025!

Below is what I’ve been tracking, listening to, and reading recently. I have an email capture at the bottom if you want me to email when I post–usually once a month.

Legal blog:

In addition to this art blog, my career-job is a personal injury trial lawyer at Antonyan Miranda, LLP with a focus on brain injury cases. My recent law blogs are:

Can a school be liable for the negligence of a school employee, when the action happens off school grounds?

Shows:

New shows are in bold.
  • 8/21/25, Bit Brigade at Brick by Brick
  • 8/29/25, Weird Al at the Rady’s Shell.

New music:

I know I love an album when I finish it and immediately replay it. Or when I’m into the first song and set it to autoplay the album over-and-over. This new Umphrey’s McGee EP Out of Focus is exactly one of those albums. Lots of great drumming and guitars, with singable melodies…mixed with UM electronics. Also, the pulsing cowbell is always giving us “MORE COWBELL”! Great tunes and approach here.

Mark Guiliana’s questions (volume one). Lots of space and time in this album. Guiliana is always creating, thinking, and feeling at a deep level.

Books:

Soooo, in the last two years I’ve read and listened to a lot of books. Like, a lot-a lot. I’ll just toss a few down here.

12 Laws of the Universe, Manhardeep Singh. My good buddy Brad recommended this. I love this approach of presence and the power of attraction (in all ways). This was a wonderful listen for this approach, for this method. It’s one to revisit many times over.

Driven: Understanding and Harnessing the Genetic Gifts Shared by Entrepreneurs, Navy SEALs, Pro Athletes, and Maybe YOU, Douglas Brackmann, Randy Kelley. I expected this to just be a ra’ra book on how to be excited about business and life. One part hit me hard: that people who are driven need to have dopamine regularly in their lives if they don’t have the hit of dopamine…they can then become anxious, sad, etc. It’s something to be aware for persons who feel they have drive, is how not getting success from the drive can be difficult. There were many parts of this book which connected with the Inner Game books.

I recently read The Inner Game of Tennis: The Classic Guide to the Mental Side of Peak Performance, W. Timothy Gallwey; and The Inner Game of Music, Barry Green, W. Timothy Gallwey: both are fantastic.

I’m about to finish Beyond Anxiety: Curiosity, Creativity, and Finding Your Life’s Purpose, Martha N. Beck. She talks about the importance of play, and how if you’re stressed: if you can tap into your inner-(outer?)-child to see the stress as a game to be played with, how that frees you up to enjoy the stress because you see it as a game-challenge rather than something that knocks you out of whack.

Alright, I’ll stop there. Follow me on GoodReads if you want to see more: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/105542885?ref=nav_profile_l

This month’s pic:

Maybe not the “best” picture. But then again, what is “best” or “good” is subjective. What I love about this picture is:

-Lots of lines and shapes in the photo. I love that stuff in pictures.

-I took this recently while hanging with two totally amazing, beautiful, and powerful friends (Katie and Noah). This was a great day and brings me one ton of joy : )

Cheers all: keep loving and creating!
